Clay earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2006. In addition, he is a Union Journeyman Carpenter, having completed the Carpenters Apprenticeship Program in 2009. Formerly, Clay served as a Superintendent with JE Dunn Construction Company of Kansas City, Missouri before joining Penzel Construction as Project Superintendent.

Some of Clay’s notable projects include the CCA Correctional Center in Hartsville, Tennessee, a $100 million project, where he oversaw construction of the pre-engineered steel building and cell block housing unit. He also oversaw owner move-in, inmate deliveries and warranty items. He served as Carpenter Foreman and Superintendent Trainee on the $45 million MU Football Stadium in Columbia, Missouri. Among other responsibilities, he managed the carpenter and labor crew forming and pouring all concrete.

In 2018, Clay was named President & Chief Operating Officer of Penzel Construction.
