Capaha Park Ball Field

Project Scope: Ball park renovation
Owner: City of Cape Girardeau
Location: 1400 Broadway Street, Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Project Delivery: Design-Build

Capaha Park is oldest park in Cape Girardeau's park system, opening in 1914. The park is located near Southeast Missouri State University at Broadway and West End Boulevard and covers more than 39 acres. The park features a collegiate size baseball field and is home to the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks baseball team, and the Cape Catfish, the first prospect league team to play in Cape Girardeau.

This $1.1 million design-build renovation project was completed during the off-season from December through May. Poor weather made this project very challenging to complete on time. Large improvements were made to the underground stormwater system, that is virtually invisible to park attendees. Upgrades include new sports lighting, drainage and grading work as well as new fencing. A 150-seat home run deck, along with Catfish Alley and a dugout club were also created.

I think the city as a whole, and the region, will be super happy with improvements to Capaha. Capaha Park is one of the city’s most loved and cherished parks.
