Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities

Project Scope: New municipal headquarters office building
Owner: City of Sikeston, Missouri
Designer: Dille Traxel Architecture
Location: 107 E. Malone Avenue, Sikeston, Missouri
Project Delivery: Plan/Spec

The City of Sikeston owns and operates its own electric generation power plant. In addition, the BMU owns and operates the municipal water works and waste treatment services. This new 30,000-square-foot, three-story facility includes public utility offices, board and conference rooms, and support operations for all city utilities. The facility also includes a drive-thru payment window.

HVAC systems include multiple high-efficiency units with economizer cooling and automated zone controls. The facility’s plumbing includes foundation drainage and storm water drainage into the city sewer systems. The sprinkler system design is a fully-automated wet pipe system connected to the city water main. The electrical service for the building is powered by city electric and includes an automatic standby generator. The building’s lighting was designed using high efficiency fixtures and switching controls.

Penzel Construction returned to Sikeston just two years later to begin construction of the $4.9 million Department of Public Safety complex, located adjacent to the Board of Municipal Utilities headquarters.
