Fruitland Wastewater Treatment Facility

Project Scope: New wastewater treatment facility
Owner: Cape Girardeau County Reorganized Common Sewer District
Location: Fruitland, Missouri
Project Delivery: Design-Build

Penzel Construction was selected by the Cape Girardeau County Reorganized Common Sewer District to provide all labor, supervision, material, and equipment necessary to construct a fully functional wastewater treatment facility. Penzel hit the ground running by creating access to the site as well as grading the site and eliminating three old, abandoned lagoons.

Due to the ground rock and the depth of our foundations, Penzel decided to blast the ground rock. Once the blasting was complete, crews began on the main sequencing batch reactor structure. Slab foundations were bank poured and the walls were cast-in-place. There are more than 760 linear feet of cast-in-place wall with heights of 16 to 22 feet.

Penzel Construction was able to add a second crew to begin working on the other structures. Penzel purchased and installed all equipment for the project. The biggest challenge on this project has been dealing with the pandemic and its effects on labor and material. Subcontractor coordination was critical as well on this project.
